Radio Active Lunch, hosted by Adam Roufberg, broadcasts and streams from Vassar College - WVKR 91.3 FM - in the Mid Hudson Valley on Wednesday from 12:00 - 2:00 PM and features live performances from local musicians and interviews on natural philosophy, survival, social/economic/cultural justice, and self-determination.
I was joined in the WVKR studio by a group of local cats proclaiming their influences as Mississippi Blues/jugband music. They go by the name Yard Sale: Taylor Davis - banjo, vocals; Keir Zemaitis - guitar, vocals; Charlie Schikowitz - Violin and mandolin; Theo Schikowitz -Bass.
"We're not bluegrass cause we don't pick that well just yet." - Taylor D
Complete interview with David Swanson on his new bestseller WAR IS A LIE. This book is a must read for all who question the nature of war, the justification of war, the fate of human kind, and the integrity of government.
RadmanX hosts the Second Annual Animal Day on Radio Active Lunch on Wednesday November 24th from 11 AM to 1 PM EST
Animal Day was created by the Vegan Initiative (Adam Roufberg, Evan Stormo and Jesse Stormo) as a day to celebrate all animal life and to express one's love and respect for all sentient beings by adopting a vegan diet - for this day, if not permanently.
This year we spoke with a number of famed vegan scholars, activists, and advocates who discussed issues such as vegan health and nutrition, the legal personhood of animals, great vegan holiday recipes, body building, vegan resources, and much more.
I was joined in the studio by local singer/songwriter (and chef/owner of the vegetarian restaurant Karma Road) Seth Davis. There are many fine phrases to describe the style and nature of this man's music but I will simply suggest you listen yourself ; I am certain you will be captivated by the depth of soul where word meets voice meets music.
My musical guest today was guitarist/singer/songwriter TJay. TJay, stylistically, blends Rock, Jazz, Blues, Soul, R&B, and a little pop to create a spirited, upbeat sound. A chopsy guitar player, soulful singer, and talented songwriter, together with an awesome cast of musicians, TJay's second album "Take A Seat " is a must have for your music collection.
I spoke with citizen advocate and activist David Swanson about the results of the 2010 midterm elections, the general shift to the 'Right' in US Politics and his new book coming out at the end of the month "War is a Lie ".
I spoke with Green Party NYS Gubernatorial Canditate Howie Hawkins about his experience, the Green Party platform (including the Green New Deal, reforming Albany, progressive tax cuts, full employment, and universal health care) and an apparent shift to the right across the entire political spectrum.
I was joined in the WVKR studio by the band Mamalama- Elizabeth Clark-Jerez (harp and vox), Sharon Penz (cello and chorus), Henry Lowengard (hammer dulcimer, pianica, tenor recorder, music box and chorus) and Charlie Schikowitz (banjo, fiddle and chorus). Mamalama's ethereal sounds will enchant you and reconnect you to the beauty and mystery of the universe. Their latest album "Willows and Waves " is now available and highly recommended by me, RadmanX. Check out the live performances and tracks from Willows and Waves, and live tunes from their next album available only from the Radio Active Lunch Archive:
