Pete Crotty and Lara Hope, members of the New Paltz based band NCM, performed for us in the WVKR studio. The 2/3 group still have the same driving percussivity (even devoid of the bands drummer Justin Pettinati who couldn't make it today) that Pete whips out of his instrument, and beautiful harmonies that invoke early Beatles, CSNY, Simon and Garfunkel, and other late 20th century bands - which is odd in the sense that their intrumental aspects tend towards bands as the Stones, Sabbath, the Kinks, Jane's Addition, the Dead Kennedy's, AC/DC and the like.

For the socio-political segment of this program I spoke with composer, pianist, author, and activist Will Tuttle, Ph.D. to discuss his book The World Peace Diet - a title which clearly indicates what the book is about. Peace on this planet begins with all of your actions. The primary action that keeps you going is eating and all of the relative peace or relative violence and discord in the world can be traced back to the way we treat our food. In fact, it can be traced to the differentiation between seeing animals as things or seeing animals as beings and once we, as individuals, make the transition from seeing animals as beings, we, collectively, will make that quantum leap towards a more peacable planet.

Dr. Tuttle will be performing in concert at the Rhinebeck Reform Church on Friday August 24th, and will  reading from his book. The performance is sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Vegetarian Society.
